Here is a recent documentary of acupuncture and Chinese medicine produced by the BBC. It covers a scientist’s exploration of acupuncture starting from skepticism and then moving through observation, experience, and finally scientific evidence in support of acupuncture. A good watch for sure!
The video is a good introduction for anyone interested in acupuncture and possibly sitting on the fence about deciding whether or not to try it.
The documentary also points out the need for larger, in-depth studies with the proper scientific controls and protocols to provide more definitive evidence about the effects of acupuncture and other forms of Chinese medicine on the body.

Both of these are easily accessible and contain a huge amount of information about the origins, history, and basis of traditional Chinese medicine. These were some of the first books that I read on the subject and they fascinated me. I especially enjoyed Between Heaven and Earth because of its focus on Chinese medicine as a medicine for the people with it’s inclusions of food therapy and some self assesments for finding your body type and element, things which can show predispositions to certain ailments and conditions, and then gives some foods and things to keep in mind to help counteract these things to keep you in balance. The Web That Has No Weaver also includes much more in-depth information while still remaining accessible as well as including a variety of scientific studies in the appendices. Both are highly recommended!
